BFJ quick answer
BFJ is a large fauna entry most worth checking around Plateaus. Scan it only when you still have a visible route home, enough oxygen to retreat, and a clear reason to add the creature to your current checklist.
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Main region | Plateaus |
| Role | Large fauna |
| Scan method | Observe from range and scan after confirming an escape line. |
| Use | Field scan, route awareness, creature log progress |
| Risk | High |
Location and route
Start from the closest safe landmark in Plateaus, then make one pass to identify sightlines before committing to the scan. If the creature pulls you away from the marked route, cancel the attempt and return with more oxygen, better mobility, or a vehicle-supported path.
Uses and unlock value
BFJ is mainly useful for field scan, route awareness, creature log progress. Record the biome, nearby plants, nearby minerals, and the tool loadout that made the scan safe; those notes are more valuable than a one-time sighting during Early Access.
Risk and scan notes
Wide profile makes it easy to track, but do not chase it away from oxygen. The safest scan window is after you stop moving, check oxygen, and confirm no larger threat is closing from behind. In co-op, one player should hold the landmark while another scans so the team does not lose the return line.
